Journal Entry 1

jJournal:  Summertime

 

 

Supplies:

You need to have a journal of some type.  A spiral notebook, diary, or a folder on your computer are all suitable options.

 

ASSIGNMENT:

Reflect on your experiences from this most recent summer.  Think about your activities– trips you took, sights you saw, people you interacted with, and memories you made.

Write at least three paragraphs (3-5 sentences each) describing your summer vacation.

Make your entry as descriptive and interesting as possible. Use a simile or metaphor occasionally, to describe how you felt or how something looked. Use vivid language that lets us see, hear, smell, feel, and maybe even taste the events you experienced this past summer. When other people are involved in your story, be sure to describe these characters. Use dialogue where possible.
Length: 3 paragraphs, minimum
Write it, edit it, and make a Final Draft. Do NOT rush through it!
ASSESSMENT:
Grade based on:
  • how well you tell your story
  • your use of vivid, descriptive language
  • your skillful inclusion of at least two similes or metaphors
  • your use of correct spelling and punctuation (+no fragments or run-on sentences)
  • correct length and formatting of essay
